Privacy
The short version
- There is no account. We never ask your name, email or birthday.
- Your shelf, saved drinks and list stay on your phone.
- No ads, no tracking, and we never sell anything about you.
- Apple handles payment. We only learn whether you have a plan.
What stays on your phone
To work, Barback keeps a few things in its own storage on your phone:
- The bottles on your shelf, and where they live.
- Your swaps, skips and saved versions of drinks.
- Your grocery list.
- Your settings, like Dark or Light, and whether clips play with sound.
None of it is sent to us, and we cannot see it. Delete Barback and it is gone. If your phone backs up to iCloud, Apple may include it in that backup, under Apple’s own privacy policy.
What we never collect
Barback does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. It has no advertising, no analytics tools and no advertising ID, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.
When you buy a plan
Apple takes the payment. We never see your card, your Apple ID or your name.
To unlock the Mixologist, and bring it back on a new phone, Barback checks your purchase with , a service that manages in-app purchases for apps. It receives:
- A random ID the app makes, which is not tied to your name or Apple ID.
- Apple’s record of the purchase: the plan, its price and currency, the dates, and the store country.
- Basic details about the app and phone: app version, phone model, iOS version and language.
This is used only to unlock the Mixologist, restore it, and keep the records accounting and refunds need. ’s own privacy policy covers how they look after it.
Barback asks Apple, on your phone, whether you have a plan. Nothing about the purchase is sent to us.
Clips, photos and sharing
Some Mixologist clips download the first time you play them. As with any download, the server that sends them sees your phone’s internet address for that request. We do not use it to identify you, and it is kept only in short-lived server logs.
When you share a drink card, it is made on your phone and goes only where you send it, through your phone’s own share sheet.
Crash reports
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may send us crash reports that do not identify you. You can turn this on or off in Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Analytics and Improvements.
Children
Barback is for adults of legal drinking age. It is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your choices
Everything on your shelf is yours to delete: delete the app and it is gone.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act give you the right to ask what we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. The only thing we hold is the purchase record above, and we can have it deleted for you. Write to us and we will answer within a month.
Changes
If Barback ever starts handling information differently, we will update this page first, change the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
